Trainer Trail / Field notes

Group class or private training?

Match the format to your dog, your goal and your schedule.

Group classes offer a shared setting.

They can suit structured puppy or manners work when the dog is comfortable in the class environment. Check age rules, prerequisites, class size and how the business handles a dog that needs more space.

Private sessions offer individual attention.

In-home sessions can help a trainer see the environment where a behavior happens. Facility-based or online sessions may fit other goals. Ask for the planned number of sessions, homework and follow-up support.

Discuss behavior concerns before enrolling.

Describe fear, reactivity, aggression or separation-related concerns when making the first inquiry. Ask which professional and format the business recommends rather than assuming a general manners class will fit.
